                                                       2014 SEASON

On Friday 12th September 2014 the SCSC XI defeated Wales by 9 wkts to win the SCSC Play Off Final.  Here are some memories from that excellent victory.

The skipper returning after losing the toss of the coin to tell his players that Dorset were in the field.

Buddy Langford receiving his County Cap from Tom White with the approval of Dave Porter who is looking on.

Jim Ryall (Farmer) receiving his Club top from Ian Bradley our Secretary/Manager.

John Young waiting for the rest of the players to join him for the team photo.

The SCSC XI line up prior to taking the field. Back Row: Dave Humphries, Terry Manning, Simon Leadbeater, Jim Ryall, Graham Puckett, Andy Jarvis. Front Row: Dave Porter, Bobby Paul, Tom White (Captain), John Young, Buddy Langford.

Bobby Paul gets the game under way with the first ball of the match under the watchful eye of our umpire, Richard Turner.

The First Sea Lord (Graham Puckett) in full flow as Terry Manning looks on.

Terry Manning being introduced into the game with his first ball of the match which ended with him taking 4-31 in his allocated 9 overs.

As always, Jim Ryall on the look out for a catch or stumping. During the season he claimed a total of 12 victims from behind the stumps.

Dave Humphries releases another ball during a spell of 9 overs which cost him just 25 runs.  Pleased to see John Young walking in with the bowler while the batsmen stays on the back foot.

The spectators in front of the clubhouse enjoying the sun and the cricket I hope during the Welch innings.

Time for Buddy Langford to get in on the act.  Even though he finished his spell wicketless on the day he was the sides leading bowler over the season taking 16 wickets.

Simon Leadbeater being destracted in the field by the noise coming from the gallery in the pavillion.

Nina Leadbeater (Centre) leads the ladies into a wine tasting session whilst the cricketers take tea.

The Dorset innings is under way with John Young in action at the wicket.

Jim Ryall turns the ball round the corner on his way to 98.

The Farmer (Jim Ryall) reaches his 50 which is acknowledged by the opposition.

Not quite a Mexican wave, but Pete Lewis on the left leads the applause on Jim Ryall reaching 50.

As always, Bill Daly and his opposite number oversees the procedings from the comfort of the scorebox as victory closes in.

As victory draws nearer, Mary White (wife of SCSC skipper Tom) conducts a season debrief with the ECB Captain (Les Elsworth) and her husband. Whilst Les is prepared to answer the question, Tom opts "to phone a friend".

John Young leans on his bat having just reached his 50 and is now focused on getting the job done.

Farmer leaves the field having been dismissed 2 runs short of his century.  However, he can be proud of his performances with the bat in his first season with the 50+ SCSC XI scoring 583 runs in 8 innings at an average of 83.29.

Victory is secured with 5 wides as John Young and Simon Leadbeater see the side home by 9 wkts.

John Young (54no) leads the sides off the pitch after carrying his bat through the innings.

Now we know who that phone call was to in the earlier photograph of the Captains debrief.  It was Tom organising the presentation with his friend the "Welsh Dragon".

Tom White receives the trophy on behalf of his SCSC side from his new friend watched on by the Welch Captain (Danny Griffiths).
